Grand River Bass Derby - JULY 4 & 5, 2009

The Grand River Bass Derby is a family fishing event hosted by the Optimist Club of Stanley Park.

This fun filled Live Release Derby is held on the Grand River with the Derby headquarters and measuring station at Bingeman Park in Kitchener.

Only Smallmouth Bass caught in the Grand River are eligible and must be brought in alive. Proceed from the Derby are earmarked for enhancement to public access on the Grand River.

Fly Fishing Category

This year the Grand River Bass Derby organizers are pleased to announce a Fly Fishing only category. Participants must indicate upon registration that they would like to enter in this category. All regular derby rules apply as well as the additional conditions below.

Fly Fishing Category participants are eligible for all regular derby prizes plus a prize for the largest Bass caught Fly Fishing!

Fly Fishing Rules
1. Participants must Fly Fish for the entire Derby. No switching to spinning equipment or conventional bait and lures during the derby.
2. Fly Fishing participants may only use traditional fly fishing equipment for the duration of the Derby. Including fly rod, fly reel and fly line.
3. Only artificial flies may be used. No lures, bait or sinkers
